As an editor with extensive experience at major New York publishing houses in acquiring, editing, and developing both commercial fiction and nonfiction—including multiple award-winning and bestselling titles—I've spent close to two decades helping authors to shape and refine their work.
I know what it takes to get a book to the next level, and I have a professional's insight and experience regarding how to make that happen. In both fiction or nonfiction, my forte is helping authors to create more compelling plot and character motivations, strengthen story structure and narrative arcs, determine which areas of their manuscripts need to be built up or trimmed back, and overall, ensure that their projects have a smooth narrative flow from start to finish. Depending on the preferences of the author, I'm equally happy to merely offer suggestions for improvement (like an interior designer pointing out the value of fresh paint and furniture rearrangement), or really roll up my sleeves and get my hands dirty on a down-to-the-studs total renovation.
